History of Conrath
The Village of Conrath traces its beginnings to the expansion of Wisconsin's lumber industry during the late nineteenth century. Originally known as Main Creek, the settlement developed along the railroad as timber companies harvested the vast northern forests surrounding present-day Rusk County. The railroad provided an essential connection for moving lumber, supplies, and settlers throughout the region, helping establish Conrath as a growing rural community.
In 1905, the community was officially renamed Conrath in honor of the Conrath brothers, influential lumbermen whose operations contributed significantly to the area's early development. As the timber industry declined throughout the twentieth century, the village gradually transitioned toward agriculture, local commerce, and small-town living while maintaining the strong community values established during its earliest years.
Today, Conrath remains one of Rusk County's historic villages.
